49 years after reunification: Cuban researcher calls Vietnam beacon of hope

(VOVWORLD) - Reunification Day (April 30, 1975) is not only a historic milestone for Vietnam, but also a symbol that encourages nations around the world to fight against colonialism and neocolonialism for their national liberation, said Dr. Ruvislei González Sáez, senior researcher at the Cuban Centre for International Policy Research.

Talking to a Cuba-based Vietnam News Agency reporter, the researcher underlined the April 30 Victory’s dual significance to both Vietnam and the world, saying the 1975 Spring General Offensive with its peak of Ho Chi Minh Campaign demonstrated the perseverance and indomitable will of President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnamese people.

The great victory reunited Vietnam and opened a path towards socialism. Vietnam is a beacon of hope for the world, said Dr. González.

After reunification, Vietnam faced numerous challenges and was considered one of the 15 poorest countries in the world from 1980 to 1982.

However, thanks to the visionary leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, today, it has risen to the top 15 most dynamic and fastest growing countries in the world, with the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2045, according to the Cuban researcher.
